Australorps in Extreme Weather

Around the Homestead today, the Australorp were struggling with the extreme temperatures of 40+ degrees Celsius. One died from heat exhaustion and another had to be lifted out of the water trough which probably save its life from both the heat and drowning whilst the rooster looked on! Tomorrow is expected to be even hotter so vigilance is required on all of our poultry including the quail.

What is important is to hose down your shed and ensure the birds have access to a mud bath to cool them and plenty of cool clean, fresh water so check throughout the day on their needs.
